Madonna Gala River Park – Paths Between Water and Stone

Percorsi Tra aqua e roccia, alla ricerca del Genius Loci

Event Management and Visual Identity

When I first arrived at the Alcantara River bend—now Madonna Gala Park—it was, plain and simple, a dump.
But with a hot sun overhead, a visionary engineer by my side, and the will to see beyond, I kicked off my shoes and stepped into the freezing water. Looking at the ancient trees, amid birdsong, I imagined the local spirits furious at the mess around them—and realized we needed to give the place its soul back.

The team I built had a dual goal: rebirth, but also a memento of the environmental damage done.
That’s why I called in Linda Schipani, an international artist specializing in turning waste into public art and design.
With local art schools and students, we collected every item found during cleanup and—through a collective workshop—transformed them into sculptures that now decorate the main square.
Local cultural associations helped rebuild the park’s photographic memory; as I watched, the spirits of water and stone seemed to smile again.

Best moments?
Each launch event drew more and more people to the park.
Inviting artists like Adele Tirante—who brought the voices of Sicily’s great female singers to the magical setting of Palazzo Cagnone—made the park a hub for art, environment, and community.

What would I like to remain?
The belief that a park is not just a public work, but an investment in the future and collective mentality.
With the “Fiumuseo” and our campaigns, we positioned Madonna Gala at the heart of Sicilian tourism, showing that any place can be reborn if someone truly sees its potential.

“A park is never just nature: it’s memory, art, work, and future.
The important thing is to believe that renewal can become contagious.”
