AIGA Messina 50th Anniversary – Institutional Branding, Tradition & Future

My journey with AIGA Messina began thanks to the vision and style of President Giuseppe Irrera: young, forward-thinking, determined to relaunch the association with new events, training, and above all a truly young and shared identity.

The real challenge?
Modernizing the image of an environment often seen as “old school,” filled with ancient mottos and legal jargon.
Young lawyers wanted to feel represented and proud to belong to an association looking to the future.

For the fiftieth anniversary, I was asked to create the commemorative logo for the Messina section.
Inspiration came from a historic painting of the Association, featuring the sickle-shaped harbor of Messina.
Studying the artwork, I realized it contained the golden spiral: natural harmony, centuries of history, and geometry.
I incorporated that spiral into the 50th logo, wrapping the text, while the zero became the silhouette of the roaring lion that every day roars from Europe’s largest mechanical bell tower—a symbol of strength and city pride.

It wasn’t just a design exercise:
even the older members felt included, sharing values and vision with the next generation.
During the ceremony, crystal-engraved awards (symbols of transparency) sealed a handover marked by renewal.

“Nothing is ever too old to be restored and renewed.
Any institution can shine again if it dares to tell its story with courage and pride.”

  • Institutional and commemorative branding
  • Logo design with historical symbolism and golden spiral
  • Graphic and ceremonial materials (plaques, awards)
  • Intergenerational association communication
  • Event management in the legal sector
  • Visual identity for organizations
  • Member engagement strategy and institutional storytelling
